Do Malay parents difffer in their parenting practices as compared to other Muslim parents? I am trying to find out whether the race matters -- or is it highly personal, depending upon many other factors and not the Malay race..input please...

Dear Prof. You think only about Race! It's too Challenging.

Because there is one Neglect in your voice [with apologizes]
The neglect is here, Are all Muslims parents have similar experiences in their parenting, child bearing and rearing?

Better to say in simple words, If we find any Sig. differentiation within them, We cant say: "this was caused by Ethnic/Race differences" !
Might caused by their Islamic visions & Muslim's attitudes to the World, Humanity, Family, and Parenting.

All time I see in Malaysian articles and papers (when Islam is one of their variables), the Islamic experiences are alike from Morocco to Brunei! It's truly a GREAT NEGLECT in Malaysian scholars' papers.

They think with non-scientific basis the Islam is World ! No, the Islam are WORLDS.

I apologize for my straightforward voices, dear Prof. :-)

    • Norhani Abdul Rahman kite orang melayu penuh dengan adat kak, contoh lagi, kalau orang datang bertandang ke rumah, (at least, this is what i've been taught by my parents),kita jamu and kita raikan tetamu, kalau semua duduk di atas lantai, dengan kite2 sekali duduk di lantai, tanda kita hormat.. and i think this is very selari dengan islam.

Salaam Maya, this is coming from a non parent, The issue is not so much race but rather of the values we have, how much knowledge we have about how to live our lives as Muslim in accordance to the sunnah of the Prophet S.A.W, socio economic status etc. Our upbringing was very different from the kids today, regardless of race and religion. Regardless, Those who love and understand Islam correctly will raise their kids in keeping with the sunnah insyallah. Of course certain permissible adats will come into play, like food and permissible dressing. Those who haven't yet been given hidayah, will raise the kids as all parents would do, stressing importance only on education and skills for dunia

    • Ashkan Asadollahi Yep dear Prof, I got your voice. But I want to say any sig diff might caused by our Islamic visions, not only from diff. of races/ethnic groups.
Malaysian scholars should attend to this issue too. TQ.
